Clearing Language Minefields

I invite you
to walk with me.
I take a step, I use a word
like truth, like caution.
Our meanings diverge,
the word explodes

your body to pieces.
No! No, that is not
what I meant!

Start again.
We’ll have to invent
new language.
Let’s take each step
with infinite care.
We sweat and step,
we step and speak.

If a mine explodes,
beneath our feet,
remember, I love you.
