Risking – for the Benefit of All Beings

Safety, we seek and seek it.
What if it only comes
when we risk,
when we follow the call of our soul
without a clue,

without assurance or insurance,
without a promise, without
the sheet that shows the pros
outbalance all the cons?
The safe deposit box,

such an attractive trap!
When we have our safety
all figured out,
how can imagination
ever enter experience?

Today the species
needs to risk or die.
Today we each must risk
becoming our greatest selves.
Today we must imagine

a world we haven’t seen before,
words we never heard before,
ideas and ways and inventions of love
that spring up fresh
and arrive without a single guarantee.
