Sonnet to Old Women’s Wisdom

It can’t be boxed,
the way knowledge is.
It lives in experience,
in the living
and learning from
a long story, voiced.
It does not reside in answers
but in the questions only those
who have eaten and drunk of life
dare voice.

We carry our foremothers
who live in our bones and hold our stories,
and they remind us:
a choice that supports us is wise.
